The
Anglo-Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Inc.) was established in July 2005 by
Anglo-Nubian goat breeders dedicated and passionate to move the breed forward in New Zealand. It
was registered as an Incorporated Society on the 29th of July 05
The
society is dedicated to the promotion of the Anglo-Nubian dairy goat and the
officers of the society are committed to providing the membership with
support and information that will assist them to breed and rear
Anglo-Nubians to
the highest standard.
Concerns were held about declining stock numbers and with an ever-decreasing
gene pool, it was felt that in order to reverse these trends, a pro-active
approach was required. Forming an incorporated society, among other things,
meant that a set of rules and regulations could be designed that would
foster a common set of objectives that would preserve, protect and promote
the Anglo-Nubian dairy goat.
Research was undertaken when designing a registration system. There
now exists a
pedigree register for males and females and a system for recording
Appendices or Crossbred males and females. The recording and use of
Appendices or Crossbred males, without the resulting demotion of the progeny
in terms of grade, allows the breeder the choice to cement favourable
genetics within their herds. A full description of the registration system
is outlined in the society’s regulations
Systems for inspection, Quality assessment , milk production and sire
performance have been designed with the intent to recognise the individual
merit of animals, to asses performance and to provide a record bank for
historic purposes. The Anglo-Nubian dairy goat is an exotic animal with a very
special character therefore exhibition of the Nubian, in terms of a public
forum, is forefront in the objectives that promote the breed. Regional A&P
shows and the society’s own designed ribbon parades will be the most
important forum for this to occur. Promotions will also take place in the
form of attending various field days and expos with
Anglo-Nubians and Information.
The
Anglo-Nubian Breed Society recognises that it is part of the greater dairy goat
industry and aspires to discuss, encourage and support any endeavor
associated with Caprine matters. Encouraging breeders to keep records and
register or record their Anglo-Nubians with the society will help to preserve the
history of the breed.
