RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

The Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Inc), registered with the Incorporated Societies has been established by Breeders in New Zealand dedicated to the Nubian Dairy Goat and its preservation in this country. The Society’s aim is to help, encourage and support fellow Nubian Breeders and owners, both old and new to breed and care for their Nubians,  as best as possible in a positive and supportive Society promoting the breed.
 

Mission Statement

 The mission of the Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Incorporated) is to encourage the breeding of  Nubian dairy goats to  the highest standard and to that end the Breed Standard will be the guiding document.

 

Objectives

 

To fulfill the philosophy of the Society’s Mission Statement the Objectives of the Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Incorporated ) are:

 1.    To establish a membership that is dedicated to the Nubian dairy goat.

 2.     To provide that membership with a foundation on which the future of the breed can rest.

 3.     To encourage and assist members in all facets of  breeding Nubian dairy goats.

 4.     To host frequent meetings and social activities.

 5.     To facilitate the exhibition of Nubian dairy goats by  holding ribbon parades and shows.

 6.     To facilitate recognition of the breed by encouraging members to exhibit, herd test and  Inspect for Quality.         

 7.    To recognise the successes of the individual  Nubian dairy goats with awards and distinctions of merit.

 8.    To actively promote the breed.

 9.    To recognise the endeavours and acheivements of the membership.

 10.    To acknowledge the efforts of  other groups formed for the like or similar purposes.

 

1. 1   Name:

The society shall be called “Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Incorporated).

 

2.0   Membership

2.1   Members:

Any person shall be eligible for membership to the Society. 

 

2.2  Member Liability:

The liability of the member shall be limited to his or her annual subscription.  He or she is also bound, by paying  the annual subscription to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Society and to conduct all his or her affairs relating to the caprine in a manner meritous and  proper in accordance with the Objectives of the Society.

 

2.3 Admission to the membership of the Society:

Admission to the Society of new members shall be by way of being duly nominated and seconded by two financial members.   A majority vote in favour made by the members of the Committee present at any constituted meeting of the Committee shall effect admission.    

 

2.4   Admission to the membership of the Society declined:

Should the vote by the members of the Committee be against the admission of the nominated person then that decision is final. The Committee reserves the right to decline giving any reason.

  

2.5   Membership acceptance:

On the person being voted into the membership, they will pay the current annual subscription and complete a Membership Application Form. They will be issued with a copy of the Rules and Regulations and any other material deemed pertinent.

 

2.6   Membership Categories:

2.6i:    Single Membership indicates a membership held by one person.  This membership has only one vote and all privileges.

2.6ii:   Double Membership indicates a membership held by two persons. This membership has one vote per person and all privileges.

2.6iii:  Partnership Membership indicates a membership held by three but not exceeding five persons.    This membership has one vote per person and all privileges.

2.6iv:  Associate Membership indicates a membership held by one or more persons who are in receipt of the Society’s periodical but has no other privileges. This membership has no voting rights.

2.6v:   Intermediate Membership indicates a membership held by one person aged twelve to eighteen years of age.  This membership has

one vote and all privileges.

2.6vi:  Junior Membership indicates a membership held by one person aged five to eleven years of age.  This membership has no voting

rights but has all privileges.

2.6vii:  Honorary Life Membership indicates a membership held by one person who shall be in receipt of  the Society’s periodical and other privileges of membership if appropriate. There is no liability for this membership to pay an annual subscription. This membership has no voting rights but may be granted speaking rights.

2.6viii:  Affiliated Membership indicates a membership held by another breed society or allied interest.  This membership shall be in receipt of the Society’s periodical but no other privileges.  This membership has one vote.

 

2.7.   Definition of Membership:

2.7i:    Financial Member indicates a membership who has paid or renewed their annual subscription and is entitled to vote and enjoy all privileges of membership.

2.7ii   Current Member indicates a membership who has not renewed their subscription by the 1st April and has not indicated that they will not do so by the 30th June.  A Current Member shall be in receipt of the Society’s periodical for the months of April, May and June. Any other  privileges of membership will be granted at the discretion of the Committee.

 

2.8    Subscriptions:

The annual subscription rates to the Society shall be fixed by the Committee before March 31st each year and notice of the rates shall be placed in the next issue of the Society’s periodical. The subscription shall be payable in advance at the 1st April each year. A person becoming a member between January 1st and March 31st shall be granted membership until March 31st of the following year. The Secretary will forward to all memberships a Membership Renewal Form which must be completed and returned to the Secretary with payment of the current subscription where applicable.


2.9    Resignation of Membership:

Any member may resign from the membership of the Society by giving notice of their intention in writing to the Secretary at any time before the end of the current subscription year.   Any member resigning shall be deemed to be a member until the Committee accepts the resignation and duly acknowledges it in writing by the Secretary.   Within fourteen days of acceptance of the resignation, any trophies and other Society property held by that membership shall be returned to the Secretary at the membership’s cost.    Any other privileges of membership shall be granted at the discretion of the  Committee.

 

2.10   Forfeiture of Membership:

Any member not renewing their subscription nor giving notice of resignation by the 30th June of the current subscription year shall be deemed to have forfeited their membership.    The Secretary shall write to the member requesting the return of any trophies and other Society property which shall be returned to the Secretary at the person’s cost.   Any other privileges of membership shall be granted at the discretion of the Committee.

 

2.11  Exclusion from Membership:

Any member failing in the observance of any of the Society’s Rules  and Regulations or acts outside the tenure of the Objectives; or is reported to have brought discredit to or be prejudicial to the interests  of the Society or membership; or has been found to have wilfully or otherwise mistreated or brought about harm or death due to negligence or inhumane treatment of any Nubian or any other dairy goat in their care or ownership shall be brought to a special meeting of the Committee convened for that purpose.   Should the member fail to present themselves before the special meeting the Committee will vote on whether or not to proceed in that instance.  Should the vote be in the majority to proceed, the Committee,   with due consideration of all the facts, shall vote on whether or not the member should be Excluded from the Membership.  The Committee will deem the member to be excluded on a majority vote and the member shall be advised within seven days.   Membership to the Society shall cease forthwith.   All privileges of membership shall also be denied.   Within fourteen days of notice of exclusion, any trophies and other Society property held by that membership shall be returned to the Secretary at the person’s cost.   

 

2.12   Bequest of Membership and Ownership of  Nubian Dairy Goats:

Any beneficiary of an estate which includes a herd being the bone fide property of a deceased member be that member a relative or  not of the beneficiary,  may apply to the Committee to have the herd,  in part or whole, along with the stud name, transferred into their ownership once they have been approved for membership and paid the current subscription.

 

2.13   Register of Members:
The names and addresses of members shall be entered in a Register of Members.   It shall be kept in the office of the Secretary and shall be open to the inspection of members’ at all reasonable times.   It shall be the duty of the Secretary to have the Register of Members at all meetings.

 

2.14        Privileges of Membership:

Privileges of Membership by way of definition include receipt of the Society’s periodical and other information; the right to use all animal recording facilities; the right to vote if applicable; the right to exhibit at the Society’s ribbon parades and shows; the right to use such services as Quality Score Appraisal and herd testing; the right to vote if applicable; the right to seek nomination for office; the right to attend all general and annual general meetings and any other  such events or social activities; the right to view the Register of Members and the minutes of all duly constituted meetings.


3.0   Administration of the Society


3.1  The Committee
3.1i   The Society will be administered by a committee.   The Committee shall comprise of persons who are financial members of the Society.  Any member eligible for nomination onto the Committee  need not have ownership, be that past or present, of dairy goats or Nubian dairy goats but shall have a commitment to the breed and the objectives of the Society and be conversant with the Rules and Regulations.

3.1ii   The Committee of the Society shall comprise of five committee members with a mini mum of four.  The committee may co-opt one or more members onto the committee if t here is a need.

3.1iii  The Offices of the Committee shall be a chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, treasurer and  one member.  The offices of secretary and treasurer may be combined at the discretion of the Committee.  Officers are deemed to be members of the Committee.  

3.1iv The Committee reserves the right to create other offices within the Committee for
example show secretary and herd recorder.

3.1v  The Committee reserves the right to create sub-committees when the need arises.   A majority vote of the Committee to nominations of those to be co-opted will effect their co- option.

3.1vi  The offices of the committee attract no honorarium and are deemed as honorary positions. Reimbursement of any expenses will be at the discretion of the Committee although any costs incurred on behalf of the Society will be reimbursed.

3.1vii  No member shall be eligible for nomination for the offices of chairperson or vice chair person  unless they have served a period of not less that twelve months continuous service of the committee or sub-committee.

3.1viii  An officer or committee member shall hold office until resignation or re-election except the chairperson and secretary who shall stand for a term of two years.

3.1ix    The office of a member of the Committee shall be declared vacant by the Committee and the member shall thereupon cease to be a member of the Committee:

a)   if the Committee is in receipt of the member's written resignation from the office

b)  the member is absent from three consecutive committee meetings without leave of absence

c)  if the member is subject to expulsion from the membership

3.1x     The Committee shall appoint a member to fill any casual vacancy.   This position will be held until the forthcoming Annual General Meeting.

 

3.2   Nominations and Elections

3.2i    Any member availing themselves for nomination to the Committee and those nominating and seconding their nomination, must be  financial members at the time of elections.

3.2ii   Nominations for committee members shall be taken from the floor at the Annual General Meeting.

3.2iii  In the case of more than one nominations, the membership shall vote by secret ballot.

3.2iv  Two scrutineers shall then count the votes.   The outcome of the vote shall be made known to the chairperson who will report it to the meeting.  The voting papers will be destroyed within three days of the election.

3.2v   In the event of  an equal vote being cast, the vote shall again be cast.

3.2vi   Proxy nominations shall be accepted.   Any such nominations must be made in writing and signed by both the nominator and the seconder and are to be received by the Secretary within three days of the Annual General Meeting

 

3.3     Other Offices of the Society

3.3i     Nominations for the office of Patron shall be taken from the floor at the Annual General Meeting.  The term of Patron shall be one year.

           The person nominated for the office of Patron shall not be a member of the Society.  The Patron shall be in receipt of the Society's periodical has no voting rights but may have speaking rights.

3.3ii    Nominations for the auditor shall be taken from the floor at the Annual General Meeting.  The term of Auditor shall be one year.

           The person elected as auditor cannot be a member of the Society.   The person need not be a fully qualified accountant but must be proficient in preparing financial statements in a manner which would satisfy any legal requirements.

 

3.4     Editor

3.4i   The Society shall produce a periodical for the purposes of informing the membership and promoting the achievements of the Nubian dairy goat and the Society's membership.

3.4ii  The Committee shall seek the interest of those who will be interested in producing such a periodical. The Editor need not be a member of the Society. The term of Editor will be permanent unless the person chooses to relinquish the position giving the Committee a

Month’s notice of their intention.

3.5iii  The Committee shall decide on the regularity of the periodical.

3.4iv  The position of Editor will be an honorary one. All costs incurred in the production of the periodical shall be reimbursed.

3.4v   The Committee shall reserve the right to request the Editor to produce other documents as required. 

 

4.0   Meetings of the Society

4.1     Committee Meetings

4.1i      Meetings of the Committee shall be held monthly or at such times as decided upon by the Chairperson, Vice- Chairperson or Secretary.

           The Secretary shall advise all committee members of the meeting venue and time along with an agenda giving a minimum of seven days notice. This notice shall be conveyed in writing, either by letter or electronically giving a minimum of seven days notice..   

           The Committee where possible shall set dates for the meetings at the first meeting after the Annual General Meeting.   The dates shall be listed in the periodical to inform the membership.

4.1ii     Should the Chairperson be absent from the meeting, the Vice-Chairperson shall chair the meeting.

4.1iii    Every committee meeting shall be minuted by the Secretary and the minutes shall be stored in either a book or folder for that purpose alone.

4.1iv    The Secretary shall convey the Register of Members and the Minute Book to each meeting. The Treasurer shall convey to each meeting accounts for payment, and bank statements.

4.1v    The Secretary shall minute the meeting.

4.1vi    The Chairperson or other person occupying the chair shall have a deliberate vote and in the case of an equality of votes that person shall have a further casting vote.

4.1vii    The individual members have  the right to have recorded in the minutes their way of vote.

4.1viii   The quorum at any committee meeting shall be four one of whom shall hold office on the Committee.

 

.2            Ordinary General Meetings

4.2i         Ordinary General Meetings shall be held at such times as decided upon by the Committee.  The members will be advised of the meeting venue and time by notice in the Society' periodical.  

4.2ii        Should the Chairperson be absent from the meeting, the Vice-Chairperson or any other duly elected person shall chair the meeting.

4.2iii       All matters upon consideration of a motion or amendment shall be voted upon by all financial members present.  Such voting shall be by a show of hands unless a secret ballot is called. Three members will call for the secret ballot. Two scrutineers will be elected. Voting papers will be supply to all present. The scrutineers will report to the Chairperson the outcome of the vote.   The voting papers will be destroyed within three days of the meeting.

4.2iv    The Secretary shall supply all present with a copy of the agenda.

4.2v     The Secretary shall supply all present with a copy of the minutes of the previous Ordinary General Meeting.

4.2vi    The Secretary or their substitute shall minute the meeting.

4.2vii   The Secretary shall convey the Register of Members and the Minute Book to each meeting.

4.2viii   The Secretary shall prepare the minutes for publication in the next issue of the Society's    periodical.

4.2ix     The quorum at any Ordinary General Meeting shall be five one of whom shall be a member of the Committee.

 

 

4.3      Extraordinary General Meetings

4.3i     An Extraordinary General Meeting may be called by written request signed by six members. On receipt of the notice the Secretary shall give fourteen days notice to all members in writing

4.3ii    The objects of the meeting shall be specified in the notice.  Discussion alone shall be con- fined to the objects.

4.3iii   The Secretary or their substitute shall minute the meeting.

4.3iv   The quorum for any Extraordinary General Meeting shall be ten members including the Secretary and one other Committee member.

 

4.4   Annual General Meetings

4.4i      The Annual General Meeting of the Society shall be held within eight weeks after the 31st March each year at a venue and time as determined by the Committee.

4.4ii      Fourteen days notice of this meetings shall be given to the membership. Included within the notice will be the agenda.

The agenda order shall include:

i)   minutes of the previous meeting

ii)  a report of the proceedings of the Society during the year given as the Chairperson's Report

iii) a duly audited Financial Report and Income and Expenditure Account for the year

iv) the election of two scrutineers to count the votes cast under secret ballot

v)  the election of officers and the committee

vi) general business

4.4iii     The Chairperson Report and Financial Report and minutes of the previous Annual General meetings shall also be published with the notice of  the meeting.

4.4iv     The Secretary shall convey the Register of Members and the Minute Book to each meeting.

4.4v      The quorum for any Annual General Meeting shall be five members

 

4.5     Reports of Meetings

4.5i     No member shall publish or cause to be published either in part or in whole, an account of the proceedings of any meetings whatsoever of the Society.

4.5ii     Reports of the proceedings may be furnished to the press or otherwise when and where deemed

advisable in the interest of the Society, provided such matters are approved by the Committee.

 

5.0     Alteration to the Rules

5.1     These Rules shall not be altered (whether by amendment, rescission or addition there to) except in accordance with the following:

a) Ten per cent or more members entitled to vote may submit to the Secretary in writing  a proposed alteration of these Rules and Regulations.

b) The Secretary shall place the proposals before the next Annual General Meeting or

Extraordinary Meeting called for such a purpose.

c) The Secretary shall post a voting paper to each member eligible to vote who shall indicate on each proposal whether they are for or against such proposal. Voting papers shall be counted by the Committee.  If more than 50 per cent of valid votes are cast in favour, the proposal shall be declared carried.

d) Every such approved alteration shall be published in the next issue of the Society's periodical.

e) The Secretary shall at the earliest convenience forward such alteration to the Registrar of the Incorporated Societies.   The alteration will not take effect until so registered.

f) No Addition to or alteration or rescission of the rules shall be approved if it affects the objectives of the society, the winding up of the society or the personal benefits of any member.

g) The Rules of the Society shall be amended to include the alteration.

 

6.0       Audit and Accounts

6.1 The Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Incorporated) is a non-profit organisation.

6.2 The Treasurer or Secretary/Treasurer shall cause true accounts to be kept of all monies received and expended by the Society for whatsoever purpose and the matters in respect of which such receipt and expenditure take place, and of the assets, credits and liabilities of the Society and receive and bank all monies.

6.3 The Treasurer or Secretary/Treasurer shall without delay supply the Committee with such information and produce such records concerning the accounts as the Committee may direct.

6.4 The Society shall maintain one or more bank accounts as deemed necessary.   The Secretary and one or members will be designated as signatories.

6.5 The working or current expenses and all other outgoings of the Society shall be paid from a cheque account.  The Secretary will present all accounts for payment at each committee meeting.

6.6 The accounts shall be made up to the 31st March each year and a Balance Sheet containing a summary of the property and liabilities of the Society on that day and the yearly accounts of receipts and expenditure to that day shall be made out.  Shall accounts with all vouchers and receipts and all books kept by the Society and also the Balance Sheet shall be submitted to the examination of the duly elected auditor who shall report to the members of the forthcoming  Annual General Meeting certifying in such a report as to the correctness of such Balance Sheets and Accounts.

 

7.0 Notices

7.1 All notices shall be sent to the last recorded address of each member as listed in the Register of Members.

7.2 Members are obliged to inform the Secretary of any change of address.

 

8.0 Voluntary Termination of the Society's Activities

The Society may be wound up voluntarily if the Society at a General Meeting passes a resolution requiring the Society so to be wound up.  The resolution is to be confirmed at a second General  Meeting called for that purpose.   Such a meeting shall be held no earlier than 30 days after the date on which the first general meeting held passed the resolution.

Upon the dissolution or winding up of the Society in any manner the surplus assets

 

thereof, after  payment of all liabilities, shall be donated to the Guide Dog Foundation or some charitable institution that affects the fancy as resolves at the final meeting.

 

9.0         Interpretation

9.1         If any doubt shall arise as to the construction or interpretation of any clause of any Rule of the Society providing that such decision shall be reduced to writing and recorded in the Minutes.

 

10.0        Common Seal

10.1        Whenever the Common Seal of the Society is required to be affixed to a deed, document,   writing or their instrument, the seal shall be affixed pursuant to a resolution of the Committee         by the Chairperson and the Secretary and the persons so affixing the seal shall at the same time            sign the document to which the seal is so affixed.

The Common Seal of the Society shall be that appointed by the Committee and shall be kept by the Secretary who shall be responsible for the safe custody thereof

1.0 Member responsibility and compliance, Interpretation of the Regulations,
Alterations of the Regulations 

 

1.1 Member responsibility and compliance:

1.1i All members are obligated to uphold the Regulations of the Society pursuant to the Mission  Statement and Objectives of the Society.

1.1ii All members shall fulfill the requirements of the Regulations in a manner which means to  maintain only true and correct recording.

1.1iii Any member failing to comply with the Regulations governing the recording of breeding shall be brought before the Committee with the outcome, as the Committee determines being expulsion from membership.

1.1iv All members failing to comply with Regulations governing the exhibition, lactation  testing,  or Quality Score Appraisal and any other instance,   shall be brought before the Committee with the outcome being  as the Committee determines.  The minimal penalty shall be the forfeiture of all awards and/or points gained.

 

1.2 Interpretation of the Regulations:

If any doubt shall arise as to the construction or interpretation of any Regulation of the Society,  the decision of the Committee thereon shall be conclusive and binding on all members of the Society providing that such decision shall be reduced to writing and re corded in the Minutes.

 

1.3 Alteration to the Regulations:

These Regulations shall not be altered (whether by amendment, rescissions or addition thereto) except in accordance with the following:

a) ten percent or more members entitled to vote may submit to the Secretary in writing a proposed alteration of these Regulations.

b) the Secretary shall  place the proposal before the next Annual General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting call for such a purpose.

c) the Secretary shall post a voting paper to each member eligible to vote who shall indicate on each proposal whether they are for or against such proposal.  Voting papers shall be counted by the committee.  If more than 50 per cent of valid votes are cast in favour, the proposal  shall be declared carried.

2.0 Breed Standard

General Appearance: The ideal is an alert, sound, well-balanced animal, standing foursquare, possessing the capacity, and breeding ability of a good milking goat, with a high, proud head carriage and majestic bearing.

 

Head: Short, with the base of the cheekbone to the highest part of the head equal to the distance from the nose to the maxillary joint. A pronounced convex nasal bone. Head carried high. Horned goats are preferably disbudded.

 

Eyes: Medium sized, set obliquely and wide apart, almond shaped giving a supercilious expression.

 

                Ears: Long and pendulous, set low on the head, parallel to the eyes, wide and open, longer than the nose when measured against it, little or no ability to lift.

 

Mouth: The teeth should meet the hard pad of the upper jaw but a tendency of the jaw to being overshot would not be penalised provided the teeth were not permanently visible.

 

Neck: Long and fine in the doe. Pronounced masculinity with a dewlap preferred in the buck. No tassels on either the doe or buck.

 

Back line: Strong, may rise slightly in a straight line from behind the wither to the hips with no sign of weakness.

 

Forequarters: Withers high and well-defined, blending firmly into the shoulders, which merge smoothly into the body. Chest is wide and deep, merging smoothly into the body. Good heart room and pronounced brisket.

 

Body:  A strong frame, long, deep and capacious showing dairy wedging. Proportionate to height, ribs well sprung.

 

Hindquarters: Rump, long, broad and strong. May be slightly rounded when viewed from the rear. A moderate slope acceptable when viewed from the side. The width between thurls greater than the width between hips. Pin bones wide and prominent. Tail short. Wry tail permissible but differs from the ideal.

 

Legs and Feet: Forelegs are straight and strong showing good bone and held squarely below the body. The rear legs also showing good bone are set wide with good escutcheon space without pronounced angulation from the hock to the stifle giving the appearance of a strong upright rear leg. The feet should be proportionate to body size, neat and even. Level bearing. There should be no suggestion of hockiness or weak or long pasterns.

 

Udder and Teats: The texture is silky. The udder is attached over a wide area, being held high and wide at the rear. The front attachment should extend well forward without a pocket. Even shaped teats, placed well apart, pointing slightly forward and distinguishable from the udder. The teats should emit a strong jet flow with one orifice to each teat.

 

Testicles: Well-developed, evenly balanced, not unduly divided, carrying two testes.

 

Rudimentary teats: Two, set well apart, slightly to the fore and side of the scrotum, of good size but not over developed.

 

Height: Average height, does 80 cm, bucks 90cm.

 

Coat: Hair should be short, fine and glossy. Bucks may develop a ruff to the neck.

 

Colour: Colour and markings are immaterial.

 

Disqualifying Faults: Wry face, grossly overshot or undershot jaw, parrot mouth. A double or super-nummary teat in does and bucks, double or more orifices in teats of both does and bucks. Monorchid or cryptorchid males. Intersex. Pink skin. Full Swiss markings.

 

 

 

3.0 Definition of Goats by Age

3.1 A doe is any female of any age, which has borne a kid.

3.2 A goatling is a female aged between one year and two and a half years which has not borne a kid.   

3.3 A maiden milker is a female of any age, which produces milk but has not borne a kid.

3.4 A doe kid is a female up to one year of age, which has not borne a kid.

3.5 A buck is a male two years and over.

3.6 A buckling is a male between one year and two years of age.

3.7 A buck kid is a male up to one year of age.

3.8 A sire is the male parent of progeny begat by natural or artificial means.

3.9 A dam is the female parent of progeny begat by natural or artificial means.

3.10 A surrogate dam is the female in which embryos are placed in the process of embryo transplantation and for all purposes is not the dam.

 

4.0 Registration Year

4.1 The registration year of the Society shall be a calendar year commencing on January 1st and concluding on December 31st.

4.2 No late registrations recording progeny born in the previous registration year received after  March 31st shall be recorded in the current Herd Book.

 

5.0 Pedigree Register

Pedigree Register animals are those of pure Anglo Nubian or Nubian bloodlines either through using sire and dams of pure bloodlines or those resultant of breeding up through the levels as outlined in the Supplementary Register.     

 

6.0 Anglo Nubian Register (AN)

Male or female progeny resultant of a natural mating of a sire or dam both of whom are

recorded in the Anglo Nubian Register. 

 

7.0 Recording System

 

7.1 Recorded Grade Record
Any Nubian doe or buck with a disqualifying fault may be downgraded into the recorded grade record.

 

7.2 Supplementary Register

The Supplementary Register is open to all Bucks and Does which conform to the breed characteristics and are free of disqualifying faults. These goats may be submitted for inspection to be placed on the Appendix ’D’ record. Progeny of goats recorded in the Recorded Grade record may also be placed here awaiting inspection to be granted a place in the Appendix ‘D’ record. This register should be viewed as a temporary register until the goat has been inspected.

 

7.3 Appendix ‘D’ Record

7.3i This record is open to all male and female goats that are distinguished by some Nubian breed characteristics to some degree and are free of disqualifying faults. Goats included are those of unknown parentage and those that are not eligible for the cross-bred record. These goats must pass inspection. The female must be milk, having borne a kid and be a minimum height of 68cm (27inches). Should she fail the inspection, she shall be placed on the Recorded Grade record.

The male must have reached one year of age and be a minimum height of 68cm (27inches).  Should he fail the inspection he will be placed on the Recorded Grade record.

7.3ii Progeny of an ‘Appendix ‘D’ doe that has been mated with an Appendix ‘A’, ’B’, ‘C’ or ‘D’ buck  shall be automatically granted a place in the Appendix ‘D’ record.

 

7.3iii          Progeny of an Appendix ‘D’ doe that has been mated with a buck recorded in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’, ‘Z’, ‘Y’ or ‘X’ record shall be automatically granted a place in the Appendix ‘D’ record.

7.3iv          Progeny of  a doe recorded in the Appendix ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, or ‘D’ record mated with a buck in the Appendix ‘D’ record shall be automatically granted a place in the Appendix ‘D’ Record.

7.3v           Progeny of a doe recorded in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’, ‘Z’, ‘Y’ or ‘X’ record mated with a buck in the Appendix ‘D’ record shall be automatically granted a place in the Appendix ‘D’ record.

 

 

7.4 Appendix ‘C’ Record

7.4i       Progeny of a doe in the Appendix ‘D’ record mated to an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian Buck shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘C’ record.

7.4i       Progeny of  an Appendix ‘C’ doe mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘C’ record.

7.4ii       Progeny of an Appendix ‘C’ doe mated to a buck in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’, ‘Z’ or ‘Y’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘C’ record.

7.4iii       Progeny of an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘D’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘C’ record

7.4iv       Progeny of a doe in the Appendix ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ record mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘C’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘C’ record.

7.4v      Progeny of a Doe in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’, ‘Z’ or ‘Y’ record mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘C’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘C’ record.



 

7.5 Appendix ‘B’ Record

7.5i Progeny of a doe in the Appendix ‘C’ record mated to an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian Buck shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘B’ record.

7.5ii Progeny of and Appendix ‘B’ doe mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘A’ or ‘B’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘B’ record.

7.5iii Progeny of and Appendix ‘B’ doe mated to a buck in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’, or ‘Z’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘B’ record.

7.5iv Progeny of an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘C’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘B’ record

7.5v Progeny of a doe in the Appendix ‘A’ or ‘B’ record mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘B’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘B’ record.

7.5vi Progeny of a Doe in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ or ‘Z’ record mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘B’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘B’ record.

 

 

7.5 Appendix ‘A’ Record

7.5i Progeny of a doe in the Appendix ‘B’ record mated to an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian Buck shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘A’ record.

7.5ii Progeny of and Appendix ‘A’ doe mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘A’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘A’ record.

7.5iii Progeny of and Appendix ‘A’ doe mated to a buck in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘A’ record.

7.5iv Progeny of an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘B’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘A’ record

7.5v Progeny of a doe in the Appendix ‘A’ record mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘A’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘A’ record.

7.5vi Progeny of a Doe in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ record mated to a buck in the Appendix ‘A’ record shall be granted a place in the Appendix ‘A’ record.

 

7.6 Nubian Crossbred ‘X’

7.6i       Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated with a pedigree (or equivalent register) buck of any other recognised Dairy breed will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘X’ record..

7.6ii      Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian buck mated to a pedigree (or equivalent register) doe of any other recognised Dairy breed will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘X’ record..

 

7.7 Nubian Crossbred ‘Y’

7.7i       Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian buck mated to a doe recorded in the Nubian Cross-bred ‘X’ record will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘Y’ record.

7.7ii Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck recorded in the Nubian Cross-bred ‘X’ record will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘Y’ record.

 

7.8 Nubian Crossbred ‘Z’

7.8i       Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian buck mated to a doe recorded in the Nubian Cross-bred ‘Y’ record will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘Z’ record.

7.8ii Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck recorded in the Nubian Cross-bred ‘Y’ record will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘Z’ record.

 

 

7.9 Nubian Crossbred ‘A’

7.9i       Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian buck mated to a doe recorded in the Nubian Cross-bred ‘Z’ record will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ record.

7.9ii Progeny of an Anglo-Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck recorded in the Nubian Cross-bred ‘Z’ record will be placed in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ record.

 

 

7.10 Pedigree Nubian register

7.10i Progeny of an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a Pedigree Nubian Buck shall be granted a place in the Pedigree Nubian register.

7.10ii Progeny of a doe in the Pedigree Nubian register mated to an Anglo Nubian Buck shall be granted a place in the Pedigree Nubian register.

7.10iii Progeny of a doe in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ or Appendix ‘A’ record mated to a buck in the Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian register shall be granted a place in the Pedigree Nubian register. Male progeny resultant of such a mating must be inspected before being granted a place in the Pedigree register.

7.10iv Progeny of an Anglo Nubian or Pedigree Nubian doe mated to a buck in the Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ or Appendix ‘A’ record shall be granted a place in the Pedigree Nubian register. Male progeny resultant of such a mating must be inspected before being granted a place in the Pedigree register.

8.0 Recording of  Nubians previously recorded with another registration body

8.1 Nubian goats submitted for registration that have previously recorded with another registration body either in New Zealand will be placed in the relevant register or record. A copy of the goats registration certificate and pedigree must be sent with application to register.

8.2 Anglo-Nubian and Nubian goats imported from another country must include the following with the application to register or record
(a) A Declaration of Transfer from the Country of Origin must be provided.

(b) A full numbered pedigree duly certified in the Country of Origin must be provided.

(c) A declaration of tattoos must be provided.

(a) The animal must be inspected by a person appointed by the committee.

 

8.3 Progeny of Nubians previously recorded with another registration body either in New Zealand or from another country of origin will be placed in the relevant register or record.

 

9.0 Artificial insemination and embryo transfers

9.0i Progeny of does that have been artificially inseminated will be placed in the relevant register or record providing a service certificate completed by the AI technician accompanies the application to register or record.

9.0ii Progeny resultant of embryo transplants will be placed on the relevant register. The surrogate doe is not the dam.

 

 

10.0 Inspections for Male Progeny of Nubian Crossbred ‘A’ and Appendix ‘A’ Nubians

10.3 Each year the Committee will appoint inspectors.

10.4 Intention of inspections will be called by notice in the Society's periodical.

10.5 The Committee will determine the fees applicable which shall also be published in the Society's periodical. The fees set will be on a per animal rate.

10.6 The combination of herds to facilitate an inspection day will be permitted.   

10.8 The person nominated as co-ordinator of inspections shall forward to the member a Registration for Inspection for Progeny Placement form. On completion the member shall forward the form and fee to the convener.

10.9 The co-ordinator will confirm with the member the date and time of the inspection.

10.10 The person or persons appointed to carry out the inspections shall evaluate the animal and return either a pass or fail inspection. 

10.11 The person or persons appointed to carry out  the inspections shall receive on receipt of an application for reimbursement any travel and accommodation costs they may have incurred in the course of their appointment.  The Committee shall determine the travel reimbursement at a per kilometre rate.  Full reimbursement for accommodation will be made.

10.12 The records for each goat and progeny shall be amended to reflect the outcome of the inspection. 

 

11.0 Inspection of Does for Register Placement

11.1 Does and Bucks of unknown parentage may be inspected for the Appendix ‘D’ Register.                       

11.2 Any doe being submitted for inspection must be of a minimum height of  68cm (27inches) and must show resemblance to the Nubian breed and have no disqualifying faults.

11.3 Doe must be in milk for the inspection.

11.4 Each year in January the Committee will appoint inspectors.

Intentions of inspections will be called by notice in the Society's periodical.

11.5 The Committee will determine the fees applicable which shall also be published in the Society's periodical.  The fees set will be on a per animal rate.

11.6 The combination of herds to facilitate an inspection day will be permitted.

11.7 The person or persons nominated as co-ordinator or co-ordinators of inspections shall forward to the member a Registration for Inspection for Doe or Buck for Register Placement.

11.8 The co-ordinator or co-ordinators will confirm with the member the date and time of the inspection.

11.9 The person or persons appointed to carry out the inspections shall evaluate the animal and return either a pass or fail inspection.

11.11 The records for each goat and progeny shall be amended to reflect the outcome of the inspection.

 

12.0 Stud Names, Tattoos and Naming of Goats

12.1 Stud Names and Tattoos

12.1i Each membership shall be entitled to register a stud name with the Society.  This stud name shall not exceed fifteen letters.  Additional stud names shall be granted at the discretion of the Committee.

12.1ii This stud name is to be used only by the membership under which it is registered.

12.1iii Each membership shall be entitled to register a stud tattoo with the Society.   This stud tattoo shall comprise of three letters.  Additional stud tattoos shall be granted should

the Committee grant the membership additional stud names

12.1iv         This stud tattoo is to be used only by the membership under which it is registered.

12.1v      The members stud name shall be known as the stud prefix and will precede the name of any    goat recorded with the Society.

12.1vi     The Committee shall determine the applicable fees and give notice of them in the Society's     periodical.

 

12.2        Naming of Goats for Recording

12.2i       Each goat recorded shall be named.  The stud prefix will precede the name of the goat

12.2ii      The name will be declined should it too closely resemble that of another goat or should it be considered inappropriate.

 

12.3 Tattooing Goats

12.3i All goats recorded with the Society shall be tattooed with green ink (preferably mixed with baking soda for better visibility).  In the right ear, the stud tattoo shall be placed. In the left ear the year letter tattoo and the herd number shall be tattooed. 

12.3ii The tattoos placed in the goat's ear will be recorded along with the goat's name, the goat's sire and dam, date of birth, number of kids at birth, whether the kid was horned or polled, was conceived by a natural mating, artificial insemination or embryo transfer

 

13.0 Registration Number

Each goat recorded with the Society shall be issued with a registration number. This number shall comprise of the Breed Status code, number in society’s register, year number, ‘H’ or ‘P’ (horned or polled) and ‘D’ or ‘B’ (doe or buck). For example ‘C2212HB)

 

13.1 Registration of Goats

13.1i Each membership shall be provided with application for recording forms.  

13.1ii All goats must be recorded in the applicable registers within a period of twelve months after birth.

13.1iii Applications for recording after twelve months will be accepted at the discretion of the Committee.

13.1iv The Committee shall determine the fees for recording in January of each year and shall give notice of them in the Society's periodical.

 

 

14.0 Lease Procedures

14.1 The owner of a goat leasing that goat into another membership shall apply to do so on the

Lease Application Form supplied by the Society.  Both the owner (lessor) and the other member (lessee) shall both sign the form on which is noted the goats registration number, tattoos and date of birth.

14.2 The lease period will also be stipulated on the Lease Application Form.

14.3 All progeny of the leased animal shall be deemed to be the property of the lessee and are to be recorded under their prefix and tattooed with their stud tattoo.  The lessor may lay claim to any progeny born to the leased animal during the lease period.  This claim is to be clearly recorded on the Lease Application Form.  The progeny under this claim shall be tattooed and recorded with the Society under the lessors prefix.

14.4 The lessee shall be deemed to be the owner of the leased animal in all instances during the lease period for example for exhibition and herd test.

14.5 The Committee shall determine the fees for leasing in January of each year and shall give notice of them in the Society's periodical.

 

15.0 Transfer of Ownership

15.1 All recorded goats that have been sold, gifted and otherwise removed from the ownership of the member shall be transferred into the new ownership within thirty days of the transaction.

15.2 The completed Transfer of Ownership Form along with the appropriate fee shall be forwarded to the Society to record the transaction.

15.3 The membership may seek a Certified Pedigree from the Society.   Application in writing is to be made to the Secretary.

15.4i      Should the membership under which the goat was bred and recorded no longer have the authority, capability, circumstance or ownership to effect a transfer, the new owner may apply to the Committee to have the goat transferred into their membership.

15.4ii The Committee shall appoint a person or persons to validate the application by verifying the goats tattoos. Should the Committee be satisfied, then they shall accept the application.

15.5 The Committee shall determine the fees for transfers in January of each year and shall give notice of them in the Society's periodical.

 

16.0 Notification of the Death of Registered Goats

16.1 Each year in July, each member in ownership of recorded goats shall be sent a form on which to indicate the death of any goats.

16.2 The member shall have thirty days in which to complete the form and return.

16.3 The Committee reserves the right to seek validation of the details.

 

 

17.0 Exhibition and Shows

17.1 Exhibition

17.1i All goats recorded with the Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand shall be entitled to be exhibited at any Society show.  

17.1ii Only those Nubians owned by a financial member of the Society will be permitted to be exhibited at any Society show unless entered into special classes as specified in the show schedule.

17.1iii The exhibit must be in  the ownership of the registered breeder or owner.   Leased exhibits are deemed to in  the ownership of the lessee.

17.1iv The exhibit must be tattooed as required by the Society.    The Committee reserves the right to request that all or any tattoos are checked on the day of the show.

17.1v The tattoos of each exhibit must be legible.  The exhibit will forfeit any points for champion, champion challenge and New Zealand Champion certificates if the judge finds its tattoos are illegible.

17.1vi The exhibit must lead and tie up.

17.1vii The exhibit must be of a minimum age of four weeks old at the time of exhibition.

17.1viii All exhibitors shall wear a white smock or breed uniform.   No lettering or logo denoting a specific stud name will be permitted.

17.1ix No entry fees will be refunded.

17.1x No substitute exhibits will be accepted.

17.1xi No animal with disqualifying faults and/or suffering from any infectious disease, external parasites, disability or injury shall be exhibited.

17.1xii No doe shall be stripped of milk in the show ring.

17.1xiii No officiating judge may exhibit or judge an exhibit owned by them and/or in their keeping.

17.1xiiv All exhibits must be of a condition that is suggestive of wellbeing and of a quality befitting the breed.

17.1xv All exhibitors and officiating judge and stewards shall conduct themselves in a manner which reflects the Society's Mission Statement and Objectives.

 

17.2 Shows

17.2i The Committee shall give notice of shows and show dates in the Society's periodical.

17.2ii Any member may make an application to the Committee to organise a show in their area.

17.2iii Only judges approved or appointed by the Committee will be permitted to officiate at any Society show.

17.2iv Only the official show schedule of the Society, with approved inclusions, will be permitted.

 

17.2v      Recognition of placing points will culminate in summations for Annual Awards.

17.2vi     The Committee shall set the entry fee.

17.3        Schedule

17.3i       The Schedule contained herein is the official show schedule of the Society.

17.3ii      Any member wishing to organise a show may apply to the Committee for the inclusion of special classes for the purposes of best serving the members in their area.  Approval to do so will be made by the Committee.

17.3iii     The schedule will indicate along with the venue of the show, the entry fee, closing date for entries and whether or not late entries will be accepted on the day of the show.

17.4iv     The schedule will indicate penning and judging times

 

17.4 Judges

17.4i The Committee shall appoint judges to officiate at all Society shows.

17.4ii Any members wishing to organise a show may wish to nominate a judge.  Application to do so must be made to the Committee.  The Committee reserves the right to decline the application.

17.4iiii Judges either trained by the Society or having served other breed groups both nationally or internationally,  shall qualify for appointment at the discretion of the Committee.

17.4iv No judge having been struck off the panel of any breed group shall be considered for appointment.

17.4v All judges appointed by the Committee shall be sent a copy of the Society's Rules and Regulations containing therein the Breed Standard and Show Schedule.

17.4vii The judge will be reimbursed for any travel and accommodation costs incurred in the

course of fulfilling their appointment.

 

17.5 Child Handler

17.5i The Schedule includes a class for Child Handler.

17.5ii A child for the purposes of this class is a young person aged from three years to fifteen.

17.5iii The individual will be judged on their ability to lead their chosen exhibit; their overall presentation and knowledge befitting their age group.

 

17.6 Type and Production Class

17.6i Does on production recording may be entered into the Type and Production Class.  The doe must be milk and the lactation period shall not exceed 305days.

17.6ii The production recording figures may be taken from the best lactations of the last two completed lactations.

17.6iii Production figures (test result sheets) must be supplied with the entry.

176iv The judge shall judge the individual exhibits on a point score of up to 100 points.

17.6v The judge will hand the scores to the steward.

17.6vi The steward will calculate each exhibits production score on the following:

1 point for each 22 litres of milk or part thereof over the standard for age yield with a maximum of 50 points with another 4 points for every 4.54 kilograms of milkfat over the standard for age with a maximum of 50 points.

17.6vii For does with production recorded but not tested for milk fat their production score shall be based on the following:

2 points for each 22 litres of milk or part thereof over the standard for age yield with a maximum of 100 points.

17.6viii The Standard for Age yields are:

under 1.06 617 litres of milk or 22 kg milk fat

1.06 to 2.00 633 litres of milk or 23 kg milk fat

2.00 to 2.06 650 litres of milk or 24 kg milk fat

2.06 to 3.00 674 litres of milk or 25 kg milk fat

3.00 to 3.06 698 litres of milk or 26 kg milk fat

3.06 to 4.00 722 litres of milk or 28 kg milk fat

4.00 to 4.06 747 litres of milk or 29 kg milk fat

over 4.06 793 litres of milk or 32 kg milk fat

'Age' in this instance refers to the age of the doe at the time of kidding.

17.6ix The steward will combine the type points and the production points to determine the placing.

17.6x The steward will then present the ribbons to the place getters.

 

17.7ii Reporting of Faults Found in Exhibits

17.7iii Should the judge observe any of the disqualifying faults for example supernumerary teats or double orifices during the evaluation of the exhibit, they shall inform the exhibitor outside of the ring of their findings and shall give notice to the exhibitor that they are pursuant to the Rules and Regulations of the Society obliged to advise  the Committee of their findings.

17.7iv The judge at the conclusion of judging shall ascertain from the steward the name and tattoos of the exhibit.

17.7v The judge shall notify the Committee via the Registrar of their findings.

17.7vi The exhibit shall be recorded in the recorded grade register.  

17.7vii Should the exhibit have progeny recorded they will remain at the level of recording at the discretion of the Committee.

17.7viii The Registrar will advise the exhibitor of the outcome of the Committee's deliberations.

 

17.8 Misconduct at Shows

17.8i Any exhibitor, judge, or steward who considers  the conduct of any person be they the officiating judge, steward, exhibitor or member of public is not reflective of the Objectives of the Society  or considered pervasive  to the  spirit of exhibition and the event, shall submit to the Committee a complaint,  either in writing or verbally within 14 days of the show. The Committee shall convene a meeting at the earliest convenience to discuss the complaint . The outcome of the meeting shall determine the consequence.

 

18.0  Lactation  Testing

18.1 Any member or members may individually or collectively lactation test their does.

18.2 A recognised laboratory or testing facility must be used if lactations figures are to be recognised in the summations for any lactation merit and annual awards.

18.3 Any number of members may lactation test their does at any officially tested shed pro viding application to do so is made to the Committee prior to testing.    The member shall indicate whether monthly, six weekly, or bi-monthly testing is intended.  

18.4 Unless 24 hour testing, the monthly testing will be done every 30 days or 42 days in six weekly testing or 60 days in bi-monthly tests.

18.5 A test shall comprise of no more than two milkings during a 24 hour period; the first milking tested being the evening milking, the second milking in the morning.

18.5 Volume measurements will only be accepted if official milk meters or approved scales are used.

18.6 This application can include 24 hour testing or complete lactation testing.

18.7 Approval to combine herds for the testing is also to be sought from the testing facility.

18.8 Members may test without a witness; however the Committee reserves the right to nominate a witness for any herd undergoing testing.

18.9 Recognition for merit and annual awards will be made by the member submitting to the Committee the official test results as supplied by the testing facility.

18.10 The doe, her sire and her progeny s records will be updated to reflect her achievements.

18.11 The results of the seasons lactation testing will be published in the Society's periodical.

 

 

19.0 24 Hour Lactation Recording

19.0i A twenty four hour milking competition shall be based on two milkings, the second milking being not more than 24 hours after the doe has been stripped dry; and the

Awards shall be based on:

(a)...yield of milk and length of lactation only, or,

(b)...yield of milk, length of lactation and percentage of fat only, or

(c)...yield of milk, length of lactation, percentage of fat, and percentage of protein provided that the date of test is not less than four clear days after the date of last kidding.

19.0ii         In competitions where prize money, and/or trophies are awarded, does which have not kidded within two years of the date of the competition and does which yield less than 1.5 litres of milk and/or less than 3.0% fat shall be ineligible for the prize monies and/or trophies.

19.0iii        The scale of points, to be awarded subject to the foregoing clauses is as follows:-

(a)) for each half litre of milk 1.1 points. Fractions to one tenth of half litre to be awarded (b) for each day the doe has been in milk since the last kidding, one hundredth of a point, with a maximum of 3.65points.
(c) for each one eighth of a kilogram of fat, 5.7 points; the quantity of fat to be calculated to the fourth decimal place, and points to be awarded to two decimal places.
(d) for each one eighth of a kilogram of protein, 1.1 points. The quantity of protein to be calculated to the fourth decimal place, and points to be awarded to 2 decimal places.

19.0iv The following information, certified as correct by the two supervising stewards, must be supplied to the Secretary of Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Inc) within 14 days of the Competition.

( a) Hours at which the doe was stripped dry prior to the test period, and was milked out during the test period.
(b) Yield of the doe at each milking.
(c) The date of the last kidding of the doe.
(d) The percentage of fat and protein when these are taken into consideration.
(e) The points gained.

19.0v Any club or persons wishing to hold a "recognised" 24 hour milking other than at a "recognised show" shall apply in writing to the Committee of the Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Inc) with the following information:-

(a) The date of the competition.

(b) The venue of the competition.

(c) The names of two supervising stewards appointed.

(d) The number of does to be tested.

19.0vi The official recording forms shall be forwarded to the organisers with the committees notice of recognition prior to the date of the Competition.

 

20.0 Merit Awards

20.0i Merit affixes are to be awarded to registered dairy goats which qualify in a ‘recognised’ 24 hour milking competition, or on the evidence of official export certificates.

20.0i Merit prefixes are to be awarded, upon application on the official form, to registered dairy goats which qualify on the evidence of official Herd Improvement Association Recording Returns or Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Inc) Production Returns, or on the evidence of official export certificates.

20.0iii All awards must be officially recorded and notification to that effect received by the applicant before they may be used.

20.1 AFFIXES: 24 hour milk production awards, based on milking competitions.

20.1i STAR (*) AND Q STAR (Q*) AFFIX:

20.1ii A doe that gains a sufficient number of points in a 24 hour milking competition held in accordance with these Regulations, is entitled to the Star or Q Star after its name as follows:

(a) Star (*): When the yield of milk, length of lactation and percentage of fat only are taken into consideration and at least 18 points are obtained (with the fat percentage of the doe being not less than average of 3.5% for the 24 hours).

(b) Q Star (Q*): EITHER: When the yield of milk, length of lactation and percentage of fat only are taken into consideration and at least 18 points are obtained (with the fat percentage of the doe being not less than average of 3.5% for the 24 hours).

(c) OR: When the yield of milk, length of lactation, percentage of fat, and percentage of solids-to-fat are taken into consideration and at least 24 points are obtained (with the fat percentage of the doe being not less than average of 3.5% for the 24 hours)

The Q Star shall have preference over and be substituted for the Star. No doe may have more than one Star or Q Star after its name.

20.1iii Star plus Numerals: A doe which has been awarded a Star is entitled to a numeral following the Star to indicate the number of ancestors in direct female line that have been awarded either the Star or Q Star (e.g. a doe bearing the affix *3 will herself have been awarded a Star and her dam, grand-dam, and great-grand-dam will have been awarded either a Star or Q Star).

20.1iv Q Star plus Numerals: A doe which has been awarded a Q Star is entitled to a numeral following the Q Star to indicate the number of ancestors in direct female line that have been awarded the Q Star (e.g. a doe bearing the affix Q*3 will herself have been awarded a Q Star and her dam, grand-dam, and great-grand-dam with have been awarded the Q Star).

20.2 PREFIXES: Lactation Awards, based on Official Herd Improvement Association Recording Returns.

20.2i Prefix RS: To be awarded to any doe which has been recorded and attained her standard for age in the lactation period of 305 days. ‘Age’ means ‘age at the date of kidding’. The prefix shall be RS followed by numerals indicating the doe’s yield in tens of litres, followed by brackets enclosing the total kilograms of fat produced in that same lactation. (e.g.: RS69(26).)

202ii Prefix R plus Numerals: To be awarded to any doe who has been recorded and yielded at least 880 litres of milk in 365 days or less. The prefix R shall have preference over and be substituted for RS. The prefix shall be R plus numerals indicating the doe’s milk yield (in her best lactation) in tens of litres, followed by brackets enclosing the total kilograms of fat produced in that same lactation, e.g. R88(45) indicates a milk yield of not less than 880 litres with 45 kilograms of fat.

20.2iii Prefix RM plus Numerals: A doe is registered in the Register of Merit when the doe herself, and her dam, have both been awarded the R110() prefix or better. A doe which is registered in the Register of Merit is entitled to the prefix RM plus numerals indicating the doe’s milk yield (in her best lactation of 365 days or less) in tens of litres followed by brackets showing the total kilograms of fat produced in that same lactation, e.g. RM154(79) indicates a milk yield of not less than 1,542 litres with 79 kilograms of fat. This prefix shall have preference over and be substituted for an R prefix.

20.2iv Prefix AR plus Numerals:
A doe is registered in the Advanced Register when she has been awarded R154() or better, if her dam and her sire’s dam have both been awarded the RM110() prefix or better. A doe which is registered in the Advanced Register is entitled to the Prefix AR plus numerals as for R and RM prefixes. The prefix AR shall have preference over and be substituted for RM.

20.2v Extended Lactation
Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand (Inc) shall also publish in its Herd Books a list of does qualifying for recognition for extended lactations; does to have yielded not less than 1,982 litres of milk in over 365 and under 730 days. An extended lactation period commences four days after kidding and terminates at the end of the natural lactation or on the 730th day after the commencement of the recording, whichever shall be the earlier. Inclusion in this list must be applied for. Does which qualify for an Extended Lactation Award shall be given an additional prefix of "EL" followed by the number of litres, and the number of days. This award shall follow all other prefixes. (e.g.RM156(57) EL2854(693).)

20.2vi Prefix Dagger:
A registered of recorded male goat whose dam and whose sire’s dam have both been awarded a Star of Q*, shall be entitled to a dagger (†) before his name.

20.2vii Prefix Section Mark:
 A registered or recorded male goat whose dam and whose sire’s dam have been awarded an R prefix, shall be entitled to a Section Mark before his name. The Section Mark shall be followed by numerals indicating the R milk value only of the dam and the sire’s dam respectively. e.g. a male whose dam has been awarded R114, and whose sire’s dam has been awarded R141 qualifies for the prefix $114/141. The Section Mark and numerals shall be placed before a Dagger when a male has been awarded both.

20.2viii Prefix Double Section Mark: A registered or recorded male goat whose dam has been awarded an RM or AR prefix, and whose sire has been awarded the § or §§ and is out of a dam that has been awarded the RM or AR prefix, shall be awarded a Double Section Mark (§§) before his name. The Double Section Mark shall be followed by numerals indicating ‘R’ milk value only of the dam and sire’s dam respectively. e.g. a male whose dam has been awarded RM154, and whose sire’s dam has been awarded RM198, qualifies for the prefix §§154/198. The Double Section Mark and numerals shall have preferences over and be substituted for the Section Mark and numerals and shall be placed before a dagger when a male has been awarded both.

20.2ix Prefix SM (Sire of Merit): The prefix SM shall be awarded to a registered or recorded male goat who has sired not less than 5 does that have been awarded at least the Star or Q*, or RS or R prefix. The prefix SM shall be followed by numeral(s) indicating the total number of daughters qualifying him for the award, followed by a decimal point, followed by numeral(s) indicating the number of different herds in which such daughters have gained their awards. This prefix shall have preference over and be substituted for all inherited prefixes (i.e. §§, § and †) and shall be written before any other awards earned by the buck himself (e.g. GCH, CH).

20.2x Prefix AM (Advanced Merit): The prefix AM shall be awarded to a registered or recorded male goat who has sired not less than 5 does that have been awarded not less than R100 prefix. The prefix AM shall be followed by numeral(s) indicating the total number of daughters qualifying him for the Award, followed by a decimal point, followed by numeral(s) indicating the number of different herds in which such daughters have gained their awards. The award AM shall have preference over and be substituted for the award SM and shall be written before any other awards earned by the buck himself.

20.2xi Prefix DM (Dam of Merit): To be awarded to a doe with four or more progeny that have been awarded: Q*, R, RM, AR, SM, AM or GCH prefix.

21.0 Show Awards

21.1 Pedigree and recorded Nubian Goats

The Nubian Breed Society of New Zealand shall make the following awards to Nubians which gain sufficient qualifying points or awards. Show points will be allocated to Nubians that have been shown at recognised Breed Society shows.

21.2 Grand Champion Award

21.2i will be awarded to any doe who gains 6 Champion wins. Does must have competition from the Championship Class or have competition in and win the Grand Champion Challenge class.

21.2ii will  be awarded to any intermediate or senior buck who gains 6 Champion wins. Bucks must have competition from the Championship Class or have competition in and win the Grand Champion Challenge class.

21.3 Advanced Grand Champion Award
will be awarded to any Grand Champion doe or buck that gains 10 Grand Champion Challenge wins.

21.4 New Zealand Champion Award will be awarded to Advanced Grand Champion Pedigree Nubians which gain 6 Advanced Grand Champion Challenge wins or by having competition in and winning the Advanced Grand Champion Standard age class. Only Pedigree registered Nubian Does and Bucks will be eligible for this title.

 21.5 Each recognised breed society show shall be eligible to have the following Awards:
(a) one Grand Champion Challenge Award for in-milk Pedigree Nubian does.
(b) one Grand Champion Challenge Award for in-milk Recorded Nubian does.
(c) one Grand Champion Challenge Award for Pedigree Nubian intermediate or senior bucks.
(d) one Grand Champion Challenge Award for Recorded Nubian intermediate or senior bucks.
(e) one Advanced Grand Champion Challenge Award for in-milk Pedigree Nubian does.
(f) one Advanced Grand Champion Challenge Award for in-milk Recorded Nubian does.
(g) one Advanced Grand Champion Challenge Award for Pedigree Nubian intermediate or senior bucks.
(h) one Advanced Grand Champion Challenge Award for Recorded Nubian intermediate or senior bucks.

 

21.6i A doe may not compete for a Champion award or any challenge awards if she is under one year of age.

21.6ii A buck may not compete for a Champion award or any challenge awards if he is under one year of age.

21.7i All winners of in-milk Pedigree and Recorded Nubian Standard Age classes shall compete for the titles of Pedigree and Recorded Nubian Champion does respectively.

21.7ii All winners of  Pedigree and Recorded Nubian Standard Age intermediate and senior buck classes shall compete for the titles of Pedigree and Recorded Nubian Champion bucks respectively.

21.7iii Nubians which have gained their Grand Champion or Advanced Grand Champion shall be ineligible to compete in Standard Age Classes. Such goats shall compete in separate open age classes for Pedigree and Recorded Nubians called the Grand Champion and Advanced Grand champion Age classes.

21.7iv Champion and champion challenge awards achieved whilst Nubians have been competing in  shows recognised by another society or association shall be recognised and counted toward achieving titles of Grand Champion, Advanced Grand Champion and New Zealand Champion titles.   

 

 

22.0   Annual Awards

22.1 The placings from each show recognised by the Society shall be recorded on the day and submitted to the Committee where the exhibition points gained by the individual exhibit in all classes exhibited, be they standard for age or special classes, will result in the summations for being eligible to receive an annual award. 

22.2 A register of perpetual trophies will be held with a photograph of each trophy and details of the winner.

22.3 The summations will be based on an accumulation of points gained under the following
placings;

Reserve Champion 1 point

22.4        The following are categories for annual awards:

23.0 QUALITY SCORE APPRAISAL

231 Members will be offered the opportunity to have their Nubians appraised against the ideal under the Quality Score Appraisal. A 100 point scale will be used.

23.2 The Committee shall appoint appraisers each year.

23.3 Appraisal will not attract a herd fee.  A fee for each goat will be set by the Committee each year.

23.4 The Committee will advise the membership of fees, dates and venues when an appraisal along will be held in the Society's periodical.

23.5 Should members wish to hold an appraisal day, application to do so is to be made in writing to the Committee.

23.6 Appraisal  will be available for does in milk of any age and bucks over a year old.

23.7 An application for appraisal will be forwarded to the Committee with the appropriate fees listing the goats chosen for appraisal listing the goats name, registration number, and tattoos..   No substitutes on  the day will be permitted.

23.8 A junior appraisal will expire when the doe or bucks reaches four years of age.

23.9 A senior appraisal will be made from four years of age and over.

23.10 The highest score will replace any score that is the lesser.

23.11 The appraisers will check the tattoos of  each goat  against the application form.

23.12 On completion of the appraisal the appraisers will forward the score sheet to the Committee where the individual goats records will be updated to reflect their score.

23.13 The appraisers will be reimbursed for any travel and accommodation costs incurred.

23.14 The results of the appraisal will be published in the Society's periodical.

23.15 Each owner will be forwarded a certificate in respect of each animals appraisal.
